  • Workshop: Abstracting the Human Figure in Sculpture

Workshop: Abstracting the Human Figure in Sculpture

    08/12/2018

    Date: Friday 14th – Sunday 16th December 2018
    Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm
Venue: Hampstead School of Art, Penrose Gardens, London NW3 7BF
    Price: £260

This 3-day workshop will begin with a look at various ways artists have distorted and abstracted the human figure in the past to make sculpture. You will then be given some quick life drawing and life clay modelling exercises to build the figure in different ways that encourage a more abstracted way of seeing. You will then be able transfer your ideas into a more detailed clay sculpture whilst continuing to observe from life.

  • Teaching demo – Making a figure sculpture sketch of Maria from memory

Teaching demo – Making a figure sculpture sketch of Maria from memory

    26/12/2017

Small figure sculpture sketch of Maria – started as a 30 minute teaching demo, I then finished it from memory (over about 3 hours) using only the tool pictured. I didn’t have any sketches or photos but I had observed her in pose for 11 sessions so thought it would be a good exercise.
